As a teacher and as an actor, I strive
to forge the strongest possible connections between voice
and body, sound and movement, intention and meaning, breath
and gesture. My work fosters a holistic approach and
integration of all of these aspects of human expression.
Exploring and integrating all of our various human NRG’s
leads to a rich and vibrant approach to the spoken word,
both onstage and in daily life. Classes taught for
graduates and undergraduates at many different levels:
Acting, Voice & Speech, Dialects, Text Analysis.

| Statement of Philosophy: |
| This training has changed my
entire approach to "vocal teaching." My goal is
to continue to explore my own voice and body and in so doing
this, to instruct others about their own instrument. |

| Although retired from college teaching (University of
Maryland and Binghamton University), I use the work on a
daily basis. Since meeting Arthur in 1980 during a six-week
workshop in Duluth, the work has continued to influence me
profoundly as I mature as a person and an artist. It gives
me unlimited options and a professional edge, whether I'm
acting at Flat Rock Playhouse or doing commercial
voice-overs. |

| Personal Statement |
| Successful teaching and coaching depend on the synthesis
of art and science. The art involves integrating each
exercise or suggestion into the behavior of the whole
person, of moving far beyond competent technical work to the
incorporaation of imagination and creativity. The science
involves a synthesis of vocal anatomy and physiology, voice
pathology, phonetics, dialects, music and various
educational methodologies. Even if intensively trained in
just one method, the ideal practitioner understands
underlying concepts well enough not only to practice
effortlessly what she preaches but also to teach and
interact with those whose training has been different or
non-existent. An ongoing emphasis on process without losing
sight of either product or joy in the work is essential.

| Statement of Philosophy: |
| One of the most profound
experiences available to any human is the use of one's
integrated voice. When the mind, body, and spirit are all
unified and synchronized in an energy to communicate, lives
can be changed. Swami Satchidananda says that the greatest
power in the world is not nuclear power, but sonic power. In
the beginning was the Sound! Let's work to get our sound
embodied and return to the ancient mission of actors: to
heal their communities! |
